MI help

New to the club, but have been an RX owner for a long time, I have a 1987 that was damaged badly by a hit and run driver, daily driver is a 1985 GSL, also have a 1982 GSL with 51K miles on it. That one has sat for 20 years and has a siezed eng. I also picked up a 1986 and was told it needed fuel injectors. What I need help with is the 1986 will not stay running.
The damaged 1987 runs great, so I put the fuel injectors from it into the 1986. I have had it started but runs very rough, will not idle, surges only. Intermittently the tach will quit working then the eng runs great but still will not idle. I've switch all the sensors, coils and checked all grounds. Now the only way it will start is when I put oil in the housings through the spark plug holes. One other thing, when the eng cranks over it sounds as if it out of time. This started after I replaced the injectors. I'm all out of idias. Can any one help me?

Thanks

Wish I could help, but I'm a 1st gen guy and don't know much about the 2nd gen ignition & fuel injection systems.

Basically I just wanted to say hi, since we're practically neighbors.

There were a total of 3 1st gens at my house today because I was helping some kids with their cars. Good luck with the repairs...

do a compression test. from what it sound like you lost compression and when you put oil in there it helps enough to get it running. but dont quote me

Well if the eng starts and the tach drops to 0 the eng runs great but will not idle after it warms up. If the tach continues to work the eng acts like it is running on only 1 rotor or only on the trailing or leading coils. the eng surges at 1/3 throttle 1000 to 2500 rpm but no more.
I changed the fuel injectors, ECU, map sensor, tps. with no change. Oil pressure gauge shows 30 lb at 1000 rpm and jumps to 60 above 2000

Check power after your main relay with your engine running and see if power drops out. Had the same issue with my 88gxl. It's a hit or miss if you will catch it. personally I'd just switch it out and see what you have.

Your tach signal comes off of your trailing coil. Get a timing light, check to see if you have spark from your leading and trailing coil packs. Make sure that your timing is correct, make sure your tps is set correctly, make sure your idle air and idle mixture is set properly, also make sure that your secondaries aren't stuck open or closed. ( Search how to's on the search bar for each thing I just listed.) Also make sure that your roller cam isn't rusty or stuck.

I'm in Wyoming, near 28th St./Byron Center Ave. Watch the Midwest section of the forum, I'll be posting the next time we get together at my place, and that's where I post info on the local autocross events as well.
