my 1996 rx7 goes up to 3000 revs then drops straight back down to 1500 ? any ideas on what it could be ? maybe a faulty sensor or loose vacuum hose somewhere ? it has a apexi power fc computer so could be something to do with that ?

i'm not really an FD guy, and i'm not at all familiar with the Power FC, but I tend to think a vacuum leak wouldn't limit you to 3000 RPM. however, I have two ideas that may at least help you start eliminating possibilities.
does it have a limp mode?
have you checked the TPS?

If you still have AWS (accelerated warmup system). Its normal for our 7 to rev to 3000 rpm on startup when cold for like around 30 sec. blip the throttle to cancel AWS. Afterward it should drop to 1500rpm and slowly to 800 when its fully warmed up.
