Question Heater Problems

Ok, so I need some help please. I bought my FB in 06 and when I bought it the previous owner told me he capped off his heater core because it was leaking. I have only been with my car for one winter which is this one now because of my deployments. So I ordered my new core but I can't decide if I should order the new valve. Does anyone know how often the valve goes bad? I'm worried that once I take the dash apart that the valve is going to be defective and not the core.

unless the PO knew for sure the core was leaking and not the valve, i'd say go ahead and replace it too. as i haven't had to replace a heater core, i'm sure it's going to be a pain. so get it all done at once while ur under there.
