ON Guage Lights Dead

My dash lights don't work
Did you check the dimmer control??? If you did and they still don't work the light switch connections may have burnt out. Check the back of the light switch. If they are burnt, you will need to replace the light switch and light switch harness.

I checked the switch and it is in fact burnt. One of the fuses was also burnt so I replaced that first.

Is it absolutely necessary to replace the harness? or can I just fix it? I am able to pull out the pin from the connector in the above picture and it seems fine. It's only the plastic that looks burnt/melted.

I have looked everywhere for the past two weeks for a new harness with no success. (I'm from London Ontario btw). I found dimmer switches on ebay but they usually go for 250$ +

If I still have no success with finding a new switch is there any way I can cut the wires leading to the switch and make my own custom switch?

Also I did some searching and I found that the improper installation of aftermarket stereos will often cause the switch to fry. Is that usually the case? I want to be able to avoid future problems as well.

Thanks.

This is a very common issue. You will need to replace the harness and the switch. There are many people parting cars out on the Canadian forum so it shouldn't be any issue finding the parts. Corey's Auto Wreckers in London generally has a few 2nd gens but I have not been there lately so can't be sure.

The stereo issue happens if stupid people tie the stereo power into the dimmer circuit.

I dont know how stuff works over there, but I just went to the mazda dealership for the harness, then I found a switch on ebay-- i had to buy two before I got one that worked right but at 50 bucks a pop it wasnt so bad. versus the 350 for the new one.

I think the harness cost me around 100 bucks.
Try this site for your harness he might ship international. he isnt the fastest person in the world but he has great prices and is always willing to help.

Ok. Thanks guys, you've been pretty helpful. I'm probably going to pick up a harness from around the Toronto area, maybe from one of the members here, we'll see who give me the better deal Also picking up light + wiper switch combo from ebay. Fingers crossed that it works. I'll make sure to rip out the stereo before I put in the new hardware. The previous owner looked kinda dumb and seems like one of those people that would plug the stereo power into the dimmer circuit. =p

@Aaron Cake
I checked all the local wrecker's and no one had anything. =( Kinda sucks that i'll have to get all my parts from out of town.
