GSL SE throttle

I haven't had this car long, and I'm trying to get it running right. It is an 84 GSL SE and it is pretty much stock. 13b, fuel injected, rats nest, everything. After about 2 weeks of tinkering, I finally got the surging to stop and now I have an issue with the throttle linkage (I guess you would call it that). On the front (towards the front of the car) of the throttle linkage where the rod to the oil pump goes, there is a 90 degree stop that the oil pump rod rests on. If I drive the car and press the accelerator hard, that stop gets bent. It bends to the passenger side. Do I have something hooked up wrong? It all looks right from the repair manual, but something is definitely wrong. Anybody else have this problem?
