GSL-SE fuel smell
my 84 re-egi has had a realy bad gas smell when driving and I am not sure what else to do. I pulled the upper intake and resealed the injectors but not sure if maybe there is something else I could do, any thoughts?

You actually have two pulsation dampers - one underneath the car on the fuel pump and one in the engine bay on the fuel rail. I'd recommend disconnecting the battery, removing the black plastic intake duct, removing the plenum and uppper intake manifold, and run the fuel pump. If the fuel pulsation damper, fuel lines, or injectors are to blame, this would be a good chance to see it.
In order to run the fuel pump without starting the car, you'll need to short the two leads together in the unused white two-conductor plug with the black rubber boot on it, located near the passenger's strut housing. With that connector shorted, the fuel pump shoudl come on when you turn the key to the car, and you can look for your leak.

I did not know about the second one at the fuel pump. thank you Crit. I did however pull the plenum and upper intake and found that it was leaking at the injectors themselves. I ordered new seals but I don't know if the local dealership is actually ordering the right ones. they are a little incompitent here.

Well, I had my injectors serviced by witchhunter.com, and they come back with new grommets, o-rings, and the little isolator on top. On the SE, the lower grommets don't really seal to the block - they're just pressed in by the injectors once the fuel rail is tightened. I must have had some slightly shorter grommets on mine and the injectors fit very loosely between the rail and block (you could spin them very easily) which actually caused a vacuum leak around the grommets. The solution was to use hylomar all over the grommets and removing the spacer between the fuel rail and engine block, which clamped down on them a little tighter. When you replace the seals on the injectors, check the fit and don't be afraid to omit the spacer if they spin too easily in the bores.
