Fuel tank question??

Wondering if anyone knows about that bolt on the fuel tank that is suppose to drain the water from the tank. How, when, and why should I do this? Run the tank empty first?? Thanks in advance for any reply. ROB

I don't know of any need to periodically drain the fuel tank and never heard of anyone doing so as a maintenance item. The only need should be if you are suspect of the fuel quality or water in the fuel for some reason or if there is a lot of rust or debris in the tank and you're going to have to remove it.

Otherwise, just change the fuel filter every 30 or 40k.

Are you talking about the drain plug? You would only use that if, well, you ever wanted to drain the gas tank.

wow, good timing on this thread. i did a search and this was at the top. i recently drained mine...same fuel for about 6 months cuz i only start my car and drive it around the block about once every 2-3 weeks. runs, but needs a tune. i'm lazy, i know.

anyways, back on topic. now there's a slow leak that worries me. i'm thinking the washer was a crush washer. would any new crush washer from home depot work? i don't see why i'd need to get an OEM replacement. i'm no chemist, but would a rubber "washer" or o-ring work or would the fuel destroy it? go ahead, school me. just need to stop the leak.

As long as you get a oring that will hold up to fuel youll be fine any rubber oring you get from home depot will probably not hold up to fuel...
