One of the issues I'm tackling on my new to me 85 RX7 GS is the fuel level. I've seen a fuel sender unit at places like Atkins rotary part FA54-60-960 and some other places all for a similar price of around $120 or so. My fuel gauge, when the tank is full, only reads a little over 1/4 full. It seems like once the fuel level gets down to a little over 1/4 full the fuel level starts to move down and seems accurate... I think. Before I spend $120 on the fuel sender unit does anyone know a test I can do to maybe check to see if the gauge itself is faulty or "jammed" (if that makes any sense).

check the foxed.ca site and download a copy of the FSM. there should be a test in there to check everything. good luck and let us know how it goes.

I would imagine it's rusted. You can take off the plastic rock/splash guard in the fender well and check the electrical side of things. More than likely you will see the electrical connections are beyond corroded.

Probably best to buy another one as the will soon go the way of the dinosaurs like so many other parts.

 

solid advice. I haven’t looked yet but figure it probably does have something to do with the sender. Figured it might be bent or rusted. Had not thought about the connection possibly being corroded. I will have eyes on it next week. Thanks

 

The connector on the sender likes to house moisture and corrode the female pins in the connector. I would start there and then remove the sender and measure the resistance per thr FSM. You likely have a faulty sender or corrosion in the connector. Possibly both.
