fuel pump? 83
Hello, I have this 83. rebuilt the carb. Starts up fine. It appears to run out of fuel. I conk out. run the starter a bit. This seems to refill the carb. Vroom. The gas is half way in the carb sight glass. When I pull the gas line off. the gas will blug blug out to the rythym of the pump. I can hear the pump and I'm thinking that the gas is recirculating and not going to the carb float wells.
Any ideas? SC

The fuel pump shouldn't have a rhythm, it should be smooth and fuel should flow continuously out of the line as long as it runs.
Check to make sure the pump inlet isn't clogged and that the tank isn't full of trash. Disconnect the outlet line from the pump and see if it flows smoothly. If not, and the pump is running roughly, replace the pump.

You are spot on. I had cleaned the tank..... kind of, and changed the filter, Today went out looking for the pump. the sheet medal cover bolts were boogered I got one off and hack sawed the second. I wanted to take the pump apart and really clean it but I could not find the electrical connector and the phillips head screws were not letting go.. Ended up cleaning it under the car. sprayed carb cleaner in both ends real good . cut off the ends of the fuel hose, it was looking gooey . Slapped it back together. Caught a nice gas fume buzz. Roared it up Hot dog. vroom. My first Drive with out conking out . Thanks All. SC
