OK Fuel Leak

I thought I smelled raw gas from the engine so I stopped driving my 94 FD, today I attempted to see if I could figure out where the problem was coming from. I started the car to warm it up while I looked in the engine bay and I smelled gas again, mainly by the UIM, looked under the car and saw gas trickling on to the ground by the drivers side of the engine. Am I right to assume that it would most likely be the FPD? The symptoms leading up to this were I occasionaly smelled a faint gas smell while driving under any condition so I stopped driving the car after I spent 4 hours researching this website, don't want an engine fire. The best answer I can come up with is the FPD, any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's hard to say for sure that it's the FPD. Sometimes the injectors leak, sometimes it's the injector o-rings, sometimes it's the FPD.

The good news is you stopped driving it. Don't even start it again.

Remove the UIM and have a look at things. There is a small black box in front of the driver side wheelwell with "Diagnostic" on it. Use a paper clip to jumper the F/P and GND terminals in that box and turn the ignition on without starting the car. This will run the fuel pump and pressurize the lines. Now you should be in a good position to find the leak.

That is the first place to look. Also check the fuel lines in case they have cracked. But, the FPD is the most likely.

Thanks for the quick response, so now the hard part... How would I move the car to my garage to work on it? I live in an apartment and I have to get the car to my parents house to start working on it. I am thinking about getting it towed over there, any other solutions, because I cant think of any. Can I pressurize the system after I pull the UIM? to see where the leak is coming from Also, I was reading the archives and people were saying this part cost $97, I can't find it any cheaper than about $140, is that about right? While I have ihe UIM off I am going to replace the vaccum hose with silicone hose, install new spark plugs and replace the injector o-rings, is there anything else I can do preventative wise while I am in there? Thanks you guys are awesome.

Sorry I misread the first post about charging the fuel system, I am going to get the car towed hopefully today and pull the UIM and see if i can tell where the leak is coming from.

Thanks again,
Kevin

If you are pulling the injectors, for the $100 or so, I would send them out to have them cleaned. www.rceng.com
By the way removing the UIM isn't going to help with removing the spark plugs.

You can rent a car dolly from U-Hell to tow it with. If I still lived in Edmond I would do it for you, but I moved.

BC injectors

injectors are common. U have a vacuum seal and injector seat. usually the vacuum from fuel rail to injector are leaking from heat and weather conditions.

Did what you siad and it looks like the gas is seeping out of the FPD , is it common for the FDP to leak intermitenly when it is bad or going bad? Going to pull the rats nest and hopefully have it fixed by next week, thanks for the advice.
