Fuel filter help

So I'm replacing the fuel filter on my 1988 na convertible but as I swapped it I believe the flow on the filter is backwards. Which way should the flow arrow be pointing the original is pointing to the floor. But as I look at the FSM it seems to me that it should be point to the sky. Is this correct? Also is it bad to have it installed backwards for so long (this is how I got the car). I installed the new one the way it was but I haven't started the car. is it safe to flip it around the correct way or should I just get another and install it the right way. Thanks

The arrow indicates fuel flow from tank to engine..the Rounded lip goes UP.

* you have enough posts to ask questions in the SEC GEN Specfic section now,so any further Questions should be directed there. This Section is MODERATED so If you can save staff the time of reading your question to approve it it would be appreciated.(they'll be wiped if you try to post anyways so please refer to the Sec Gen section in the future)

shouldn't the arrow of flow be point up ? Because the lip I think you talking about that's on the filter is on top but the flow arrow of flow still points down?

Ya..SORRY.
I just went out and froze my *** off looking at the new filter I JUST GOT.
The rounded lip part on it says IN..So that part is from the TANK.
