NC Fuel/Carb questions on my 80 SA

I have a stock 1980 and have had a lot of fuel problems since bringing it home. I knew what I was getting myself into because it had been sitting for 10+ years.
I replaced the fuel tank with a 12 gal cell and have a new pump and filter with new fittings and braided/rubber lines. I've heard you can simply cap the original fuel return line. My question is would it have any effect the internal regulator in the carb or any other effect?

What type of pump did you install? The carb doesn't have any real regulator to speak of (just some resistance on the return line). Depending on the pump you installed, you may need a good fuel pressure regulator to go with it. Some fuel pumps produce a pressure that is too high for the Nikki.

It was a cheap mr gasket pump I got at autozone. It has a max flow of 6psi.
Should I install the return line going back into my fuel cell?
