CA Front Suspention/Steering Q's

So my right tie rod broke off the rotor assembly when I was being stupid and hit a large curb, and then I noticed that one of the bolts that connect the lower control arm and the balljoint wasn't there anymore (first pic). I am a little worried because there seems to be a lot of space, as you can see in the picture. I tried holding them together with some pliers, but it seems to put pressure on the sway bar. Is this normal or is something else bend and causing it?

I can kind of see why this could happen based on the instructions on how to install the main control arm in the Haynes manual, but I don't really know.

The other thing I am not sure about is the tie rod. The tie rod end snapped off and the actual rod got bent as well. Is it possible to just replace the rod (from where it connects to the joint inside the boot) or do I have to replace the whole rack and pinion?

Oh an I just thought of one more thing, how critical is that cover around the rotor? Based on the thickness, I am guessing if I bend it back into shape it should be good, but who knows.

Oh and this is an 88 'vert. Which brings up another thing, is there any difference between the convertible and coup in regards to steering/front suspention? I know the rear brakes are different, but that's about all. Is there a year/model range for me to look for if I end up looking for stuff in a junk yard?

Any input is appreciated!

Where the tie rod snapped:

Oh noes! A missing bolt!

Thanks!

looks like your spindle could be replaced if that tie rod did the damage and wore out the hole that it is supposed to be installed in,.The dust shield is gone,so another one of those would be peachy.
Outer Tie rod definitely.
and your lower ball joint looks to be missing a bolt that secures it to the lower control arm.

You broke one bolt holding the ball joint in and bent the ball joint itself (so replace it) and possibly damaged the socket in the spindle for the outer tie rod end. If the tie rod is bent then you need both an inner and outer tie rod (the inner is the rod and a joint, the outer is just a joint really).

For the dust shield on the brake, I'd grab another one at the wrecker, and while you're there I'd grab a spindle to go with it just to be safe.

The dust shield isn't super critical, it just directs air around the brake rotor, but even if you bent that one back it is still missing a large piece so I'd just replace it.

With a hit like that I'd also check your control arm bushings, upper strut mount and check if you bent the strut as well.

Yeah man with curb incidents it is not hard to screw up the spindle assembly and everything else down there. Just replace it all from a donor car at the junkyard.
