Finally got the boost under control!!!!!
FINALLY!!!! This is to hopefully help some of the newer owners who make the same mistakes as I did to avoid or just plain not do it. With the hours on hours of reading the most common problems when searching for boost issues is low boost. I've made a lot of upgrades to the 93 FD and as you know the boost just keeps climbing and climbing. I started with: Stock and then came...
Greddy Pro Spec B 2 boost controller
Racingbeat Dual Tip Catback
Meagan Racing DP
Meagan Racing MP
eBay hard pipes with K&N filters
Power SX intercooler
Power FC no tune yet
Catch can
Soon after my EBC was doing nothing to control the boost. With it off I was getting 6-7 psi then 9 ++++ when the second turbo kicked in.
Then one day the boost reached fuel cut 14+ psi. in second gear. Scared the **** out of me. I then checked the EBC. Lines were good. Solenoid worked. But after taking it back out the boost would sky rocket.
I later found that the actuator nipples I had "Capped" off had cracked. Put another set on and I was back to my out 6-7 psi to 9++++. Still a problem though. Through the forum I stumbled on restrictor plates. I make a 2.25 for both sides of the MP and put gaskets in between. All the boost held!!!!
Turned the EBC up to about 30% on setting and 0 for Gain and Set Gain. The first turbo held at 9.5-10 and the second one kicked on and held at 10-11!!! Once the rain is gone ill fine tune it. I haven't got to make and hold power for 3 months. It feels great to be back!!!!!
This probly could have be easy avoided by choosing to be a bit quieter and running a hi flow cat. But I want the exact sound I have. Very low very mellow and just hint of twang while idling. Porting the waste gate is next.
Hope this helps!!!
NOW I have to figure out why I have a wall of smoke coming out of my exhaust when I let of the gas. It's pretty embarrassing and my girlfriend hates it.
