FD3S Jap VIN number help
Hey all
There maybe a better place to post this question...But for now im a site newbie :p But I have looked through some of your VIN forums looking for a way to work out the model using a japanese VIN number... I see in one thread a guy must have access to a computer program that deciphers jap VINs. If that person is reading this please help out
If anyone could shed any light on the following VIN number it would be hugely appreciated!!! Model year etc
FD3S-603775
Many thanks all! Hoping I can return a favor in the future.

FD3S Jap VIN number help
That person would be me. i will run a build sheet for that FD as soon as my laptop recharges. From a quick look at the chassis number, I can tell you that it's a late 2001 build, probably a Bathurst R
Looks like I was slightly off, it was a February 9, 2002 built Type R Bathurst.
MSC Code: F158-2CW
Identifier Code: 06937-0507
STB Seats
20P Paint Code (Innocent Blue Pearl)
FF2 Interior (Black)
280hp
5-speed
4.10 LSD
No sunroof
ABS
16" wheels
4-seater
MSC Code F158 was used on the Type R Bathurst (タイプ R バサースト) and Bathurst R (バサースト R). The difference appears to be only cosmetic as yours does not have the badging on the B-pillar. Bathurst R cars have one in the same location as the "RZ" badge

Thanks for that mate!
Can't thank you enough. You've just answered everything I needed.
I wonder if the only difference between a bathurst and bathurst R are the badges on the b-pillar and carbon fibre dash inserts.
It would be interesting to know what the production numbers of what the series 8 type r bathurst are as I can't find much info. I know the bathurst R were limited to 500

Going through the JDM Mazda VIN database. I've found model code F158 being the only one used for Bathurst versions.
With that in mind there would be 2824 Type-R Bathurst and Bathurst R models made, running from VIN Nr FD3S-602281 in August 10th 2001, to FD3S-607312 in August 24th 2002.

Note that data base is a Russian site. Use at your own risk.
There is a fellow in Australia that has a super list of Series 8 VIN with all the production numbers.
2001 Bathurst were a limited edition run of 500. The 2002 were basically a run out of the base model.
I think he has posted up the link on the RHD FD Nation, North American Edition thread.
If you have a 2001 limited edition, you are a lucky mon.

Car History Search, Japan.
Here is the link for car histories in Japan. Price is reasonable. Beware! You might be surprised!

Just bought RX7
I have been sold it as a type R Bathurst but the car doesn't say it anywhere? Is that info correct with this VIN number FD3S-606769 if anyone would mind checking the VIN for me or telling me where to look?
That is a very late production car. Congratulations.
Why not run a car history search on it for $35?

I did on mine. It was very helpful.

I just checked, it is a real Type R Bathurst. MSC Code F158-2CW, one of 2174 made. MSC Code is on the doorjamb sticker.
