FD Rx7 Rear Seats

Hey guys,

I am interested in purchasing some rear seats for the FD and I recently came across a Craigslist add where someone is selling them but I was wondering if I need any other hardware or parts to be able to install them? Brackets, Panels, Etc...

All he is selling is the rear seat, nothing else.

You pretty much need everything you mentioned. Buying all the missing pieces will be time consuming and more expensive than buying a complete conversion from the start. Expect to pay about $700ish for a complete package in this day and age. I did the conversion on my FD recently and was glad that I had 98% of the parts needed.

I think its cool that we were fortunate enough to be offered with the ability to do rear seat swaps from japan, however, what is the purpose? Looks, nostalgia or function? Not that it wouldnt be kind of cool but i think its pointless. There is literally no room for people to sit back there, you loose storage space and it costs more than its worth IMO. Just something to think about. You could put $700+ towards some nice brakes, exterior touches, maybe some Sakebomb HIDs or something

But if it would effectively decrease insurance then i say :icon_tup::icon_tup: but i don't know if you can propose that to the insurance company or not :/

After looking at some pictures i agree, if you don't need the bins do a seat swap if you feel like putting the time/money towards it. They look a lot better than the bins haha.

You can seat 2 kids back there as long as the front seat occupants are not very tall and the rear seats hold book bags and groceries better for example. Personally, I never utilized the bins very much with the exception of storing a spare quart of oil, napkins for checking the oil, and a very basic set of tools (1/4" ratchet with sockets, 4 in 1 screwdriver, and pliers).

Have they made a tan set or is it only black? I am not sure how a black bin seats will look like with a tan interior

I just love the way they look. Worth the cash imo.

They never made it in tan, only black and red

Has anyone installed a baby seat in these seats?

A child seat will fit back there but not a baby carrier system. The rear seats don't have many flat spots for the child seat base to sit on without tilting/leaning to one side so you'll need to figure out a way to safely keep the seat level. I've seen child seats back there before but I haven't really tried getting one back there personally.

If it's a 93, put mom in the back and stick baby in the RF. Or get a sedan since back seats in a FD are about as useful as teats on a dead boar hog.

Quick google search reveals many pics. rear seats were standard in all other parts of the world except USA. my next car needed 4 seats (back seat for an occasional 1-2 mile trip with the little one...) and i was shocked the Rx7's came with them and the modification takes less than 30min. Negligible weight increase also. I actually bought a mint set of rear seats before i have an Rx7. It was easier finding the seats than a CYM R1 for them to go in...

this was helpful for planning

I find the bins more useful. I put my battery in the passenger side and built a sub in the driver side.
