FD Rear Caliper Bolt size

Hey all,

I was finishing up a brake pad and rotor replacement on my 1994 FD and wound up realizing the thread is stripped on the passenger side rear caliper "G" labeled bolt. I have already purchased new bolts and pins but I could not find what size those bolts are. Can anyone point me in the right direction for the size of those guide bolts. OR to get to the real question, has anyone used heli-coil in those rear calipers threads? I'm thinking that's going to be the best bet moving forward as the marketplace does not show any rear FD calipers for sale. I have searched and no dice.

thanks,

Matt

I personally don't know the thread pitch of those threads on the caliper or the bolt. But... You can take the caliper or bolt into your local store and try to find a bolt or nut that threads on to identify it. Or email Ray Crowe and buy a new OEM bolt.

https://belmetric.com/ is a good source for non OEM bolts

i found out it was a 14mmx1.25 unfortunately the threads were too messed up on the bolt and caliper to be able to take them in to have them checked out

Did you manage to get something to fit yet?

Way I figure itz it's all cast so should be too difficult to finesse something else in there. If the threads are completely gone then you maybe can try to flatten a piece of coat hanger out and make a small shim to in there and then screw into it. This is assuming you're planning on trying to replace it anyways. This is a redneck solution to try to make something out of nothing

If you know the thread size, you can try and chase the threads in the caliper with a tap. If they are too far gone, you can always use a helicoil or other thread insert to re establish the original size.
