FD questions...
I am looking to buy an FD and I have some questions and I am not able to post anywhere yet.
I am looking at a 94 with 95K miles.
Issues:
- It does not go into 5th or reverse ( possible synchros)
- he aid that someone put power steering fluid in the brake system and he didnt drive the car for 8 months and found this out. Maybe brake lines need to be replaced or maybe flush the system
- The mile counter stopped
Is the brake system thing a big issue or easy to fix. Is the speedo issue and trans issue normal on these card. I am really exited about getting an FD.
Thanks in advance,

*If the car won't go into those gears...at all, it's more than synchros. I think in my area, rebuilding a 5 speed transmission will run around $1500. A good used transmission from a reputable seller will run around $400 + shpping.
*Can't answer the PS fluid question. My guess is that it won't harm anything. But flushing the entire brake system of the FD...including the ABS lines and pump could be a job.
*If the odometer doesn't work, you have no idea if it really has 95k miles on it...do you?
*Neither the transmission issue or the odometer is normal. The earlier produced 93 models had a weak 5th gear synchro that caused grinding from 4th to 5th. But it didn't prevent you from using those gears. And it was corrected on subsequent models with a stronger shift select spindle and synchro.

Most braking systems can't take oils other than brake fluid .. most of the time what I have seen are the rubber cups and valves get soft and deteriorate after a bit of time.. The slave cylinders could also give the same problem's .. You will need to do a through cleaning of the brake lines etc. maybe with a parts washer air blow gun that will pump alcohol through the lines until they are clean .. You will more than likely need to rebuild the slave cylinders also .. You might get away with a good cleaning but I doubt it .. Good Luck ..
If not done proper the brakes will work for a while and then fail when you need them most .. ATF is not as bad as engine oil but it could still cause problems .. Why did you double post this thread ??

Thinking about this some more....anyone who is stupid enough to put PS fluid in the brake master cylinder is stupid enough to abuse and neglect the car in countless other ways. That might explain the broken transmission. Because of that, I personally would NOT believe ANYTHING they say about the car...it's history or current condition.
I think I'd get excited about another car.

You could probably lock this thread.

mr2 dude - in the future, do NOT start multiple threads on the same topic.
