FD engine needs work
Hello,
I am a new member on these boards, but i have been reading alot about the RX7.
I am in the market for buying a FD and I came across one that needs work( which I am looking for in the first place because I want it to be a hobby car that i want to build myself). Now my question is if I can make something out of this engine, i am +/-100% sure it needs a rebuild and some decent aftermarket stuff. But can I use this engine to do it or is it so bad that its not worth it?

Without any info on what is wrong with the engine, there's no way to tell you if it's a rebuild candidate or junk. The majority of engines will be fine for a rebuild, but there are circumstances where some or all of the engine will be unusable. Broken apex seals can damage housings/rotors, overheating can crack water jackets, blown coolant seals can lead to water & rust inside the housings which means the housing(s) and rotor(s) will be trash, and so on...

Yeah I know, I dont have much info on the engine itself. I only know the air recirc was removed by one of the previous owners and it runs but rich. My major concern is more how it looks on the outside aswell.
Ill try to rephrase my question. If you would come across this car and the engine looked like this, would you consider starting a project to get it all shiny and good working again?
The price of the car is what made this interesting for me, its less then the price i paid for my KW suspension for my RX8. The body needs work too, with dents and damaged paintwork.
