FD clutch problem

Have a 94 Touring model that just started giving me a clutch problem. I believe it may be the clutch master cylinder but I am not really sure. Last time I drove it, I was sitting in the middle of a turn lane waiting for traffic to clear so I could make a turn, & had my foot on the clutch which was pressed to the floor ( The car was in 1st at the time ). The car starts rolling forward! Eek! Well, I killed the motor. In a panic, I reached down & pulled the clutch pedal back up by hand but expected it to be dead. When I stepped on the pedal again, I had full pressure & the clutch would work fine.

Seems like if it was the slave, ( I have replaced a few on the other 2 first gens I have ) I would not have gotten any pressure at all after the clutch went dead. From what I can see, the slave isn`t leaking as they do over time. As long as I am not pressing the clutch to the floor with the car in gear for say over 10 seconds or more, the clutch is fine. I have 112K miles on the car right now. About to do an engine replacement as well but will leave that out for now.

Am I correct in reasoning that it probably is the master cylinder for the clutch? Would a slave cylinder do the same thing? Just haven`t ever seen one do that before. I am the 4th or 5th owner of the car. Hard to say what has been done to the vehicle before me.

Thanks for any suggestions anyone can offer!

They can both bypass fluid, but if the slave does it you see it dripping. Pull back the carpet and insulation by your master and feel for fluid, it can bee hard to see. Clean any up it's very corossive. The factory rubber hose can leak you should pick up a SS hose if you replace anything.

I`ll check that! Thank you!

I have one other question. Haven`t really given it much thought. If the brake fluid in the reservoir was old, I wonder if maybe the viscosity was too slick & might be leaking past the rubber seals in the 2 cylinders? I know that brake fluid absorbs moisture. Hard to say when it was last changed. Maybe never? That would make it 15 years old! LOL! Not sure. Any thoughts?

If it gets past the seals it will end up somewhere, it takes fluid from the brake master so if your slave cyl went it will get low fast.
