FC Transmission vs. FD Transmission
Hey guys,
I was wondering what the difference is between the FC Transmission and the FD Transmission?
And are they interchangeable?
---
Pretty new to the Mazda scene and I'm coming from a Subaru background. Almost all Subaru parts are interchangeable, so I was wondering if that works within the RX7's.

Internally they are very similar.
Externally the FD uses a pull type clutch while the FC uses a less insane push type clutch. So no, not swappable without swapping bellhousing (not sure if that requires other mods, this is rarely done). Little advantage in doing so anyway.
Just to save some future questions: Each generation of the RX-7 is essentially a completely different car. There are few parts swappable between generations. Generic parts like fuel injectors are between 1st and 2nd gen, and the front brake calipers are the same from FD to FC, but that's honestly all I can think of that is a direct swap.

I searched but i couldn't find information regarding if the internal bits of the Tii FC and the FD transmission are interchangeable, so i figured i would ask in this thread rather then a new one.
Back story, I bought a used Tii transmission that was suppose to be good. After sending it out for a rebuild, i am told i need an output shaft, countershaft, as well as second gear. I have access to an FD transmission.
I checked the forums and found no answer, except that both of the FD and the Tii FC transmission are the Model R Transmission from Mazda. I checked and cross reference part numbers and it does look like the Main Shaft share the same part number but i can not find any information on the counter shaft.
I am not sure if my part number cross reference check is correct either, i used the Jim Ellis Mazda website to look for parts.
