Question FC Suspension Setup

Ive got an 88 10 AE with tokiko Illumina shocks all the way around and racing beat springs. The shocks are adjustable 1 being softest 5 being firmest. How should I set them up? Stiff front? Stiff back? all around stiff? I just want it to take turns really good, not looking for a drift setup or anything.

Well, it will all depend on what you are doing. Here's how I would work my Illuminas on my fb:

Daily driving: Usually a 2 or 3 (front and rear set the same).
Spirited driving: 3 - 5 depending on condition of roads.
Autocross (rough course): 3 - 5. Start with f/r set the same, then adjust for over/understeer as needed.
Autocross (smooth course): 5, then adjust for over/understeer.

Adjusting for over/understeer: Generally speaking, soft front/hard rear = oversteer. Hard front/soft rear = understeer. So, if I was running at all 5s and having issues with understeer, I would adjust the front a tad softer. If I was dealing with oversteer, then I would soften the rear a bit. Make sense?

If you can, pick up a copy of "How to Make Your Car Handle" by Fred Puhn. Great book, easy to understand.

I hope this helps.

+2 what Kentetsu said. When autocrossing my '90 GXL, I ran 3 in the front and 5 in the rear most of the time and had quite a bit of success with it.
