fc S4 n/a tps adjustment
There are three different ways to adjust the TPS. If you look in the factory manual (see the FAQ section of this forum), they use a two light TPS special checker, which you can make your own out of two leds, two resistors, some wire and two spade lugs. The procedure is there.
You can also use a ohmmeter, and measure the resistance between the terminals of the TPS connector. You need to do this anyway to see that the TPS is healthy; the resistance should be about 4.5k ohms at full throttle, and have no dropouts across its range of travel. Then adjust it for 1k ohms at idle throttle (with the engine at operating temp).
Some prefer to adjust it for 1volt output at the ECU, but I find the TPS does not come back to that reading consistently enough to be useful, so I use the ohmmeter check.
The factory service manual says you are supposed to check the timing and advance, set the idle mixture and the idle speed prior to doing the TPS adjustment. I'm not sure why any of that affects the TPS adjustment, but that is what the manual states.
