there is also a relay to the right side of the steering column, behind where the ignition sits. figured i would mention it as i haven't seen anyone recommend testing it yet.

I believe you're referring to the same relay Satch and I touched on. To my knowledge that's the only relay in that area in relation to the fuel pump.

Thank you. I am leaning towards the afm, because the connector on the harness side was replaced with another connector on the harness side, and the wires do not match the original afm wires from the ecu.

I will check the wire color codes to see what model and year afm connector has been installed. Maybe there is a difference in wiring and the wires are not matching.

If the AFM fuel switch was working properly and the plug connection was good then you would find continuity between the two wires (Black wire and a Brown wire) present in the fuel check connector when the flapper door to the AFM is opened.

Search for s5 AFM in s4. Some people install the s5 AFM due to size and that may explain the splicing and mismatched wire colors.

Thank my fellow brethren! This is why I like this site so much and can ALWAYS depend on the excellent support. The information I receive is equivalent to paying a mechanic to work on my car. The benefits of utilizing this site is priceless!!

I will dive back in this weekend and will post up.

Ok...so here is my latest update. I replaced the fuel pump relay under the dash (yellow and black module), I tried to start the engine and no go. Then I propped the afm flap door open, and on the third try the engine fired up (would only stay running with the gas pedal pressed down). I then un propped the flap door and tried to restart the engine and it would not run.

I checked an s5 vert and an s4 vert afm connector and wires and the wire colors were the same as the added afm connector and wires I have. So I am still thinking that maybe the afm connector and wires are not the correct part for my s4 GXL. Any clarification will be greatly appreciated, I am stuck. Thank you

I cringe when I see stuff like you have in the Picture in Post#14.
Have you checked continuity on all those nasty connectors?
Honestly I never did trust those things and would rather twist the living **** out of a set of wires to mate them together.Or solder them..
My headlights flicker because of one of those connectors and I replaced it..Twice..

An S5 AFM has 5 wires and an S4 has more. Additionally, the engine sounded flooded so you might want to try the deflooding procedure when you have difficulty starting the car. Also, you might want to check the compression for the engine for low compression engines will have difficulty starting (noticed the car has over 200k miles).

I will solder the wires together and check the continuity. Does it matter if the wire colors do not match? I am thinking that the wires are connected to the afm connector pins color coded. Since the wire colors on the afm connector is not the same as the original harness wires that was the reason the flapper door would not open.

Here are my compression tests.

CA Houston...We Have Ignition!

Finally the engine turns over and stays started under it's own power via a battery charger. There is still some idle issues, could be wiring on the fuel and ignition sides, or maybe the fuel injection system. The car has been sitting since 2001, so maybe it just needs to warm up for a bit.

Did you find out the exact problem to fix your rx7? I'll watch the videos. But I didn't hear you say what part solved the problem.
