FC (1990) Auto Trans Starts in 3rd
As far as I can tell my friend's 1990 RX7 (FC) convertible stays in 3rd
gear from a dead stop. It's very slow that way. He had me drive it
and I noticed it wasn't shifting.
I tried putting it in "1" instead of D and it still did it. Then I put it in "2"
and it seemed to start in first, then shift to second, and so on.
It also has problems starting in "P", and the dash "P R N D d 2 1"
indicators do not often work. I think there's an issue with the linkage
and the starter inhibitor switch. I'm unfamiliar with these cars.
In another issue does anyone know of a shop in or near Columbia, SC
familiar with the FC RX7?
Thank you,
Larry

it's definitely something in the trans causing the problem. what i don't know cause i've never been inside one. could be in the valve body or something about the modulator valve. but definitely sounds like it needs a rebuild. any auto trans shop should be able to diagnose the problem regardless of the engine in the car.
