FB nikki flooding at high rpm

I just put my Nikki back together -bowls are both half full when I turn the ignition on, accel pump is working. Starts fine and I take it down the road. Running ok, then I rev past about 5k - when I bring it back to cruise it sputters and wants to die. When I got back into my garage the engine quickly died trying to idle. Bowls are overfull and gas is pouring into the carb.

All I can think of is the FBVS not working or fuel pressure being too high. Would there be other reasons for the bowl levels looking good then over filling later on?

I’m slightly desparing with the Nikki at the moment -just when I thought I was making real progess! Is there a decent used market still for these carbs?

Thanks for any help!

Also, one line that I haven’t considered is that my TPS isn’t adjusted correctly. My car is a stock 12A from ‘83. Does the TPS have a big effect of fuel mix?
