exhaust ports

im trying to figure out what type of exhaust port I should go with, and i was wondering how the shape of the exhaust port would afect the sound and performance of the engine. like how the opening side of the port being flat or straight as aposed to curved or rounded like most exhaust ports i see are.

I will let this Thread stand.Just for info purposes.
But Sideways FC, you clearly have enough posts to make a thread in Sec Gen Specific.

I was wondering about this myself. Apparently I learnt some time ago from my engine builder that the slopes on the intake ports were for smoother airflow so i guess maybe it applies to the exhaust ports as well? And I cant imaging rough exhaust airflow tormenting my turbocharger.

I personally went with Pineapple Racing's exhaust porting template along with their intake port template if that helps.

Good luck!

I just wonder how it would make the engine sound? coz it would be opening more abruptly rather that gradualy.I also wonder how that would afect spooling a turbo?

from theory, messy windflow + heat = lower lifespan of turbo fins, was just a thought that i had.

the sound that i get from the pineapple racing exhaust ports with their large streetport sounds like a bridgeport on cold start idle but goes back smoothly once it warms up.

i wish i could get the erratic idle sound to stay tho. any clue if its because of porting or mapping? pardon the question.

well wich pinapple raceing exhaust port is it? coz I got the ep1a but I know they have ones that have the flat abrupt opening and ones like I got with the rounded gradule opening. I am going to take my ep1a templet and scribe the opening side and then sins it dosnt move the closing side up at all i am going to slide the template up a little and scribe the top so I can have a little more overlap.what does your car idle at?

1150 to make it a little stable yet keeping a little bit of the lumpy cammed sound. if you really just want the plop plop plop just idle richer but beware the carbon buildup :p

You know like, every few minutes it suddenly drops rpm from 900-600 suddenly and the whole care vibrates. The engine compression loss feel if you get what I mean. Ill just try to keep the carbon to a minimum for now since i cant high rev to clear it out, until at least I break in the new engine. And I'll probably set it to 1000 and maybe richen the map cell in the ECU for idling by 0.5 to 1 point. I'll prolly sound like an evo or WRX that had maximum cam lift. Hahaha.

By the way, what do you think of the exhaust note? It has a whole lot more bass when you are next to it than my phone could capture haha.

o it sounds awsom but it would sound amazing idleing around 900! you should be able to idle around 900 on a large street port no problem. if its dipping down to 600 randomly then you have a problem some were. what type of ecu do you have?

i'm on AP Engineering PowerFC right now. i'm waiting for summitracing to deliver my new MSD system over (ignition boxes and coils) so i can map it properly. and maybe after that ill lower the idle

squared off ports give the idle a little bit of lump to it, not exactly emissions friendly compared to the rounded off leading port edge ports.

power difference is going to be negligible.

so it will sound more lopey with a squared off port?

then dump fuel, or look into how to make MORE power with a bridge through a wider rev range.

o with the size of the street port and exhuast port im doing along with the exhaust im building it will be a pure eargazum!!! but yea I could do a bridge port with a proper sized turbo and anti lag if I wanted to.
