exhaust for ported engines.??
Hey guys and maybe even gals haha. Well I decided that I will rebuild my 88 SE at 200k miles and then port it once I get a good handle of all her stock capabilities. I will most likely go for a bridgeport since the first few seem like a waste of time and money. Go big or go home hahaha.
Anyways, is there specific aftermarket exhaust systems for ported engines? I've done a bit of research and they always say that I would need an upgraded exhaust from stock, but that is about it. I usually see Rx7s with Apex or Racing Beats online so is that the way to go? I have to say that Racing Beats sound pretty smexy !

get your 3 in dp, high flow cat or straight through midpipe, and a 3 inch pipe cat , whatever brand you want, and the tip could be larger then that if you want
I wouldnt say theres a specific exhaust just for porting, its generally a good idea to do a dp and cb, i def wouldnt stick with the stock cat though.

Here is what a bridge port sounds like in traffic:
You would need to swap out the header for a downpipe, but otherwise you could use the rest of the exhaust system. However, if you plan on high hp for the turbo engine, then you would want larger exhaust.

[QUOTE=Evil Aviator;11415247]OK, but just realize that going big will cost about $10K, and will leave you with a very loud car that sucks gas.

Where would the hefty price of 10k come from?

Fast cars cost a lot of money. If they were cheap, then everybody would have one.
In general, here is where price rises on a FC RX-7:
- When 200-230 bhp is exceeded
- When the engine operates past the OEM redline rpm
A bridge port does both. Also, were you told that a bridge port engine typically only lasts about 30,000 miles?
Here is a basic build list for a bridge port engine setup. It would actually cost more than $10K, but I assume that you would be able to find some used parts or cheaper labor costs. If you wanted a professional full-race setup (lightened rotors, Motec ECU, 5.5" 2-disk clutch and flywheel, dry sump, cc'd 321 SS exhaust, etc.) then you are looking at well over $20K.
$5396 "C" level engine rebuild *
$1020 Standard bridge porting
$0080 Lapping
$0170 Rotor side clearancing
$0280 Balancing
$0110 Shimmed oil regulator
$0305 Koyo Radiator
$1300 Pre-fabricated streetable exhaust system
$0350 Upgraded clutch / pressure plate kit
$0500 Lightweight flywheel and counterweight
$0350 Scattershield
$1000 Haltech Platinum Sprint RE ECU with flying lead
$0350 Aftermarket 550cc fuel injectors (4 new)
$0110 Walbro 255LPH fuel pump
$0180 Aeromotive A-100-6 fuel pressure regulator with gauge
$0250 Various hoses, fluids, filters (estimated)
$0500 Professional tuning (estimated, could be more or less)
* I am assuming that carbon apex seals will drop the price of the engine rebuild by a bit, but I am not sure if there are other services required for high-rpm prep (locked bearings, e-shaft oil mods, etc.) that would make up for the price difference. Also, I am assuming that your engine does not need a full rebuild at the Mazdatrix pricing of $7311. You can get these services for less money than Mazdatrix, especially if you hire a shadetree mechanic, but this is a good general outline for pricing. Also, the above is limited to 10,500rpm, and you would need better components (lightened rotors, racing clutch/flywheel, etc.) if you want to exceed this level.
