FL Exhaust Advice????

i have a good downpipe from my turbo and i put a straight pipe where the cat was. now since this is the only place i can get good advice about my FC.

im wondering if it would b a good idea to just go to a muffler shop and have them put it a wider pipe from the down pipe to the straight, and from the straight to dual exhaust with no mufflers just straight pipes all the way through. is this a good idea? does any1 know what will be the outcome as in tone, volume, and enough for the turbo to breathe?

anything bigger than 3 inches will be a waste of money and time... what size are you thinking?

2.5 maybe... maybe a tiny bit bigger if possible. im not looking for giant pipes all the way around. i have a t2 turbo with a built na motor running around 8lbs. and i know the original exhaust isnt letting it breathe well. or so ive been told.

It would be ear shatteringly loud I'd say just get a good name brand cat back if your running a stock turbo at that low boost it really doesn't need anything crazy. Is this car your daily driver or a track car?

oh ok. well the people that installed my turbo said its peaking 8lbs. i have a boost guage but i have not installed it. i was looking for a decent a-pillar pod but i think im going to just mount it under the dash somewhere.

that leads to another question...
how do i hook up the guage? what do i need?

(can u tell im new at this? ive never done anything to car b4. im basically a clean sheet of paper writing everything down that i can lol)

so you don't know how much boost you really have and you are wanting more???

Hmmm, sounds like a recipe for disaster.

This also sounds like a non turbo that someone bolted a Turbo onto?

8 psi is about maximum you want to go anyway on a Non turbo block, unless you have made some fuel system modifications (and even then you are probably pushing a non turbo block).

Well the guy that built my block has been working on these motors forever. so he built it with 3mm seals some 3rd gen components inside. ported. idk which type tho. i think some upgraded injectors n a upgraded clutch plate to hold the power. maybe a few other things that i dont know about.

i have 3000+ miles on the car n it runs strong. i love it. im not really looking for more boost at the moment i just want whats good for the car. and my mechanic said to go for a racing beat exhaust but i cannot afford one at the moment so i was just curious about the straight pipes.

also any info or link on installing a boost guage would b greatly appreciated. thanx

no. i dont know how much i am actually boosting. but im not trying to get more.
i just want whats good for my car. my mechanic has been building these motors forever. since the first Rx's. so i bought this car as a NA which i blew the seals out. and i had him build it and install a turbo and aftermarket intercooler. so he did. he put in the 3mm apex seals, new rotors, (from a 3rd gen i believe), and a couple other things tht needed to b upgraded. and he put in a new upgraded clutch plate to hold the new power.
so i have a cross breed of a NA and T2 i guess. the only complaint i have is all the pipes r on one side n its awkward. but it works.

i was just curious about the straight pipes bc the racing beat exhaust he recommended to me i cant afford right now.

o and any links or any info on installing a boost guage will b appreciated.

If you have 3rd gen rotors, then you have low compresion rotors which are for turbos, and your motor could handle more then 8lbs of boost.

IMO you should save up for the racing beat pipes. Also try looking on the 2nd gen sale threads for an exhaust system. Here is a search I did for "exhaust": https://www.rx7club.com/search.php?searchid=6223884

Found this site through ask.com by searching for boost gauge installation:
http://www.grandprix.net/upgrades/boostgauge.html
Also try google, you can usually find a lot of info this way.

Also try looking at the FC sticky threads at the top of the new member technical forum here https://www.rx7club.com/forumdisplay.php?f=256 . I don't know about the FC, but there was a lot of info and good advice in there about my FD.

Well, I don't know about these cars, but I have an SRT-4 with a 3" TBE that y's into 2 1/2" dual tips out the back. No cat. It is pretty loud and the drone is noticeable all the time in the car unless you are idling. If you do a cat delete, you might want a couple of resonators put in to dampen the sound.

Since this is the New Member Technical Tread, you have to wait for a mod or admin to approve your post in this section. It's so nobody can thread crap, or flame anbody for asking a question.

IN Mr

I don't think I've heard anything quite as loud as a rotory engine with just a straight pipe. Unless you want ear splitting sound, put a muffler on it, any kind will help.
Good luck, Terry
