Yes, from the factory it worked quite well. However after 20+ years on the road, it is probably worn out.
The system was quite sophisticated for the day. Not only could you change the suspension response from the driver seat but the AAS would also make automatic adjustments if driving conditions required it.

i used to have aas in my 88 gxl and it accually had new aas shocks and it worked great i would play with it all the time ok you dont feel the car lower or anything but what i noticed was when i had normal activated it felt smooth and well responsive a little hard to peel out around corners which was a good thing , and on sport was very responsive and would hug the road alot better and took corners like a champ ... so yes they do work really good if you find new ones i definitly recommend them.
