Ebay Turbo Motors?

I have a 1987 RX-7, it has a four port 13b in it already but it was converted to carberated and the whole turbo assembly taken off. When I bought the car it didn't come with it either. I was thinking about converting it bak but I got to thinking that it would be nice to swap in a turbo II engine and keep the one I have now as a spare. I've been looking around on ebay and a couple of JDM motor importers that sell the turbo II 13b's some with and without the tranny, but I'm not sure if they are reputable and don't want to spend $1,300- $1,500 on a motor that they say will run and when I get it, it doesn't or blows a seal after a few hundred mile, It's my DD so thats why I'm a little worried about it blowing up.

I answered your question in another section that you posted this very same question in.
But you are answering it sort of own your own.
You do NOT know that they are reputable,That is why they can sell you a motor that is a piece of junk and get away with it.
Maybe you will get lucky and get a good one,but really do you want to risk that amount of money and take the gamble?
Be patient, don't jump into anything,do some research on the Forum and see if you can gather more info on rebuilders,or a company that others have had success with.
But Ebay?..I really would not suggest it.

just do your research on the companies that import engines. look for reviews and stuff from other people that used them.

I'm sure some people on here have bought an engine swap on eBay.

The places on eBay are jdm engine importers but every jdm exporter I've seen sells their rotary engines "as is" yet they garauntee it has compression.

Like myst said, you'll need to find someone that's bought one themself and had a good experience.

Keep in mind you dont know how long these engines have been sitting and they've likely been run hard.

Another option is investing a little more money and buying a rebuilt motor;complete turbo swap from a reputable builder like rotaryresurrection here on the forum.

Peace of mind costs money on a rotary

Okay, thank you for your help. Sorry about the re-post, my computer said it didn't go through so I made this one. Guess it did.

As mentioned above, it's pretty much roulette. I've actually had 3 JDM engines come my way, and all of them had good/great compression and no water seal problems. But 2 of them I inspected firsthand from somewhat local dealers. Some will actually do a 30 or 90 day "warranty" but collecting on that can be difficult.

The safest way to buy one is find some place local and then bring your own starter, cables, battery and compression tester.

IF you can find a motor from a good seller you should be fine.
