Driverside inner door handle copper piece?

Driverside inner door handle copper piece?
Its on a 93 Mazda RX-7 Touring. When taking apart the door in order to tint the front windows I noticed a piece kind of dangling from the handle when I removed it. Just wondering if anyone knows exactly what this does?
