Door Speakers Not Working

Hello,
1988 RX7 Convertible NA. 60,000 miles. I swapped out the original door speakers (there are no headrest speakers) with 5.25" speakers and I get nothing.
Reading through other forums I understand the door speakers are connected to a crossover (?) and this is what is causing the speakers not to work. Mazda apparently made their speakers to work with it but not others.
I know the crossover is behind the dash speaker on the left (drivers) side. Do you just disconnect the door speaker wires from the crossover and do a connection from the radio to the door speaker wires on the other side of the crossover. Crutchfield said I would have to do this and the speakers would work fine but I would like information from someone who has done this. Any good instructions?
I apologize if this has been in other threads, I did a search but there are 250 or so pages and I thought this might be a little quicker.
Thank You!

Find the wires that go from the door Speaker to the amp. This way you do not have to run new wires to the speakers.
From the DECK,Run wire to the Wires That GO from "stock amp" to speaker wires.

Mazda had a amp setup, running from Deck to amp to speakers.
NOW,2 ways to get power to the speakers is to utilize the stock wiring and BYPASS that stupid amp OR run NEW wire directly from your DECK to the Speakers.
