Does porting help spool time?

(mild street all the way to bridgeports)

Does porting help to spool a turbo faster, than the same turbo on a smaller port?

If so what exactly is it that causes this? Is it something to do with a sooner intake port opening, or perhaps a later closing of the port?

I'm very curious, been bugging me all day and I can't seem to find the answer myself. Thanks in advance.

Well porting actually hurts low end. More air makes slower flow. A quick glance at some other forums seems to indicate the turbo will spool slower. The turbo will function more in its efficiency range in the top end however.

I would guess the turnover point would be near the point where the combustion chamber starts seeing the benefit of a port. I am pretty curious to the specifics as well.

the simple answer is yes, porting can help spool. if you open the exhaust ports earlier it helps spool. generally speaking, yes, given the same turbo, porting the engine will increase it's response.
