Do Your Window Switches Work?

So I am an fc owner who was recently plagued by the dreaded dead window syndrome...and as my car sat for 3 days with the window down and plastic taped over it, i decided to try and find the problem as to why the window wouldnt go up...

THis thread is for new FC owners who may be interested in saving some money or working on a tight budget...as i have...my budget for getting my car in running order after buying it is ZERO. so il tell you how to save a little bit of money for when you really need it...starting with the window switch problem.

First off, the window switch issue, from what i understand, is a common fc problem. these switches are prone to getting fouled out by electronic "carbon"...basically, there gets to be a coating of black crud on them that causes them to foul out and not work.

So to fix it-
1. Carefilly remove the switch from the door panel...it is just pressed into place...a flat head screw driver and a little bit of patience will help this along
2. Disconnect the switch from the wiring harness at the connector...very simple...
3. Carefully remove the bottom part of the switch by removing 3 screws-top, mid, and bottom
4. check the grounds in the switch...and remember that there are two rocker grounds per switch-two driver, two passenger-and they are directional...so if you get them in there incorrectly they will not work.
5. Using a flat head screw driver or a pocket knife, ently remove the black residue until the brass is showing through on all the connections...a dry paper towel to polish them works well too.
6. assemble the rockers into place, assuring that they move in the appropriate direction...one rocks up and grounds and the other rocks down and grounds...and this is only on one switch...make sure that both in the unit as a whole are working exactly.
7. carefully reassemble as to not knock your grounds out of place...if you have to hold up the plastic pieces to prevent this, then do so...it will save you a headache
8. Reinstall the switch carefully to the wire and test before pushing the unit back into place in the door panel...

this will save a litle money as sometimes, depending on where you go, these window control switches can get expensive...considering the simplistic natire of the unit itself.
