Do I HAVE Too?

I was reading one of the problems below on adding straight pipes. So do you really HAVE to remove the air pump and its components after you remove the cat? If you do remove the air pump then do you also HAVE to change the pulley system? Also my RX is back firing more since i removed the cats, not that i'm complaining but if I wanted to calm her down on the backfires is my only option to put a cat back on? Thanks

I have never heard of totally removing the air pump to remove the cat. You will, depending on the model, have to figure out what to do with the split air pipe.

When you take the cat off, yes, an N/A will backfire due to running super rich. You can put the cat back on, or get some sort of fuel management to dial down the fuel.

If you do remove the air pump then you DO need to do something about the pulley system. You can do two things, run a dual alternator pulley or run a pineapple racing yoohoo belt.

So then to control the fuel would I be able to buy an aftermarket fuel regulator, one that I could adjust? Excuse my ignorance in this subject.

And where would be the best place to pick up a dual alternator pulley?

i have 83 rx and i have taken out the air pump and all the vacuum hoses with the emissions and keep the stock carb. you have to make sure that you PLUG all the hoses and the air pump.
