Cruise Control Issue
The cruise control actually works fine when engaged. The problem seems to be at the cam behind the throttle body where the accelerator cable and the cable from the cruise control servo are attached.
when the accelerator is pressed the cable causes the cam to rotate counter clockwise (as viewed for the front of the car) The cruise cable attaches over the top of the same cam and attaches on the opposite side from the accelerator cable. Occasionally when driving the cruise cable will come out of the grove in the cam and bind when the pedal is released causing engine to rev towards full rpm.
I have unhooked the cruise cable and temporarily removed the problem, but I’d like to know how to fix it or at least what’s not working correctly.
should the cruise cable retract as the accelerator rotates the cam? Because when I watch it now it just gets slack in it and then as I said drops out of the groove causing the problem.
Cruise control operating normally at highway speed so I know the servo is getting vacuum. Just not sure how it should operate when not engaged. Thanks in advance for any input.
