Cruise control/clicking noise when backing
Cruise control/clicking noise when backing
Hey guys,
Bought a 91 Black convertible (with airbag) a few months back. I have a few issues still.
1. Cruise control will not engage. I have the main switch for cruise in the wiper switch assembly with the cruise set arm on steering. Light comes on when main switch is pressed, but cruise not engaging. I noticed that there is a red wire w/ black stripe hanging loose at my left foot , left of clutch pedal area. I also noticed an (unmounted?) loose button/switch of some kind (possibly the brake switch)??
2. Also hear a brief grinding sound (like some one tightening a zip tie or scraping plastic teeth on a comb) when I am backing up (in reverse) while turning wheel.
3. I can redline the engine in neutral, but when in gear, It acts hesitant or stall-ish at 5-6k rpms and doesn't want to go further on gauge.
Any suggestions for me?
Thanks,
Derek

1. If the clutch switch has been bypassed, then the cruise will never engage.
2. Could be anything. Most likely something to do with the front brakes and bearings. You'll have to do a check of all the bearings on the car, make sure brakes aren't dragging, etc.
3. Check your grounds: http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/grounding.htm
