Couple Questions About My '86
Sooo.....
#1 s4 is 86-88, but the tii didn't hit the market until '87 if im correct. I am now doing all the research on a swap and just want to make sure there is no complication with doing an s4 tii conversion on an '86. That may sound stupid, but I don't know.
#2 What is intailed on doing an s5 Tii in an s4?? I am having trouble finding anything other than "when doing the conversion, stick to the same series" but I know that the s5 was a better series for performance. Don't need a whole breakdown in the answer just a birds eye veiw.
#3 Cosmetics. are s4 and s5 exterior parts interchangable?? Tail lights, front bumper, etc...
Thanks for all the help!!!!

#1. Correct, S4 TII into S4 is the simpler option. Some extra work includes harness modification, AFM, pressure sensor, driveshaft, flywheel/clutch.
#2. I don't have much detail on the swap, but you have to source many of the same turbo components and a much more involved harness mod. The increased performance mainly comes from the S5 engine running higher boost than the S4 engine. A boost controller will probably close most of the gap between the two.
#3. As stated above, stock bumpers, moldings, skirts, tail lights (w/ slight body modification) are interchangeable. However, lips and half bumpers will be split up by series.

Too old for this
When doing a TII swap into an N/A car, the drivelines also need to be swapped. If you have a TII transmission, but no rear end, you can use a custom driveshaft to make it fit.
The trim piece on the exterior is slightly different between S4 and S5, but its pretty minor.

Let me clear up something really quick, my first question. I know what it takes for the most part on a standard s4 na to s4 tii swap, the question was if the fact that my car was built before the tii was in production does that effect a standard tii swap?? Or is there more to consider than on say... an '88. I know mazda made some minor changes after 86 but i dont know if those effect anything im doing.
Thanks for the input though and keep it coming

so, as was stated before, there shouldn't be an issue with converting your '86.
