convertible top problem...

I have a 1988 RX7 convertible and the top won't go down? the switch on the dash makes the electronic module in the back beep steady then it goes to a continuous tone... any suggestions?

Is the e-brake on? The top won't work if the e-brake it not engaged.

Is there anyway to bypass the switch and manually lower the roof?

Yes, the top can be manually raised/lowered. Here's a link with info from the series 5 owner's manual: http://www.cabrio7.org/rx7man1.html.
