Coilovers on a fc???
Coilovers on a fc???
So coming from the 240 world I was wondering why is it that everyone I have talked to that owns a fc prefer strut n spring combo over coilovers??? with owning a 240 it was always frowned upon and was always told save your money and buy coilovers.
So is it a money issue with them or is it better to run a strut/spring combo on a fc? Cause if not the 3 sets I'm looking at are the Isc http://www.importimageracing.com/isc-suspension-n1-coilovers-for-86-91-mazda-rx-7.html

It depends on what your intentions are with your car.
If you are just street driving, then a set of adjustable shocks and stock springs are fine.(KYB-AGX for example).Unless you don't care about the harshness of the ride, and feeling the contours of a stone when you run over it,then Coil overs are not really a good thing on a street car.
If you are street/auto-X then you would upgrade and think of a coil over setup.
You get what you pay for, really, and some of the lower end coil overs are well just that..low quality.
There should be plenty of threads discussing brands,so look into that. You can find a lot of good info in the Sec Gen Specific Section and the Archives Section.

Lol don't know why but whenever I post something it takes a day before I can actually view my thread maybe cause I'm posting on a phone but my other choices are
Bc racing

Or
pbm

Tried looking but not many people talk about their coilover setup on a fc unlike the 240 world lol. The coilovers I had on my 240 were stance gr+ pros and I know stance makes them for the fc but I really wasn't to impressed with them after a year

If you are intending to daily drive the car with just some track, then coil overs are typically not warranted. The additional drivetrain harshness because most coil over kits eliminate the rubber isolators between the springs and shocks is not worth it, and it's tough to find a spring appropriate for street use (I watched a friend try for 6 months).
RB springs and KYB AGX shocks. Bolts right in. Tokico Blues are another popular choice, and Eibach makes a good set of springs for the FC.

Pbm actually has the fc coilovers in stock here. So I think that is going to be my choice to go with since they ate just $100 more then the other 2 choices and also are more reputable and trusted. I understand the reason for going with the spring/strut combo but I have coilovers on 240s for the past 6 years dialed in on full stiff so I'm used to ride quality that coilovers give.
Tein Flex is pretty good for street use from what I hear, spring rate is 6k/5k, a good friend of mine drives a S14 240sx and he has that on the car, feels very solid and not uncomfortable.
Im really glad someone got this thread going as this is something I have wondered myself. I have had a few 240sx cars with SR20s and an imported Silvia. All of which I put coilovers. But it SEEMed as if most FC owners use tokikos and springs.
Plus, even if I went with coilovers, I have no experience with setting up the suspension on an FC. I am only interested in Grip/Touge style driving so...
I was thinking of going with TEIN...maybe the flex. I have used TEIN in the past.
But while building one car specifically for playing/drifting, I cam across the Max linup of parts. The tie rods and such.
How about there Coilover that the link went to? How are they? Compared to a TEIN for an FC.
THANKS

ah, and I forgot about JIC. I had JIC FLA2s on my most complete car and drove it daily for 4 years. Loved it. How are these? Im gonna go search if they are available for the FC.
=P
I had the JIC FLA2s, whiteline sways, TEIN tie rods and ends along with there tesion rods....
I'm just interested in the best set up for a touge/auto x FC.
