Clutch issues on 88 gxl
Hello, Josh here.
I am new to the RX-7 club. I bought my 88 RX-7 3 years ago with 90,000 original miles. Was garage kept the whole time and was completely stock. The only Issue I had when I first purchased it was that the fuel injectors got flooded and needed to be replaced. Has run fine up until a week ago when I was in a bad mood and popped the clutch on a takeoff to burnout out of rage... should have never treated her like that, she hates me now :P The 2 days after I noticed my clutch was not as firm and the other day when driving the clutch would drop to the ground and could pump a few times to get pressure to shift or whatnot. Last night I had a emergency and had to use the vehicle even though I knew I shouldn't be driving in its condition. The clutch is now stuck to the bottom of the floor and will not get any pressure. I bled the system which looked to have 23 year old fluid from manufacturing in it, was disgusting. There is no leaks in system, got all debris out and is not full with fresh fluid. Still no pressure, bled system 5 more times and still no pressure. I cannot see it being master or slave cylinder, lines or clutch itself and feel there is something I am doing wrong or something I am missing here. Any ideas would be great. I hate having to take the car to a mechanic due to lack of any reputable ones in area, have been done over one to many times by them. Thanks!

Is the fluid level staying constant? A leak from the master can sometimes run inside the firewall or into the passenger compartment. If the clutch ever falls to the floor, you have a hydraulic problem. If you can't find the leak, you may have an internal one. Replace the master & slave, and go with a braided stainless hose. If they're the original parts, it'll be a miracle if they're still in usable shape.

The level stays constant. Bleeding has no effect on pressure. Parts are 23 yo so I will start with youd suggestions and replace cylinders and hosing and will let you knowhow It goes. No parts locally so might take a week.

You can get it all through Mazdatrix, which will also let you buy the cheaper braided line: http://www.mazdatrix.com/f-hydral.htm. I just overhauled mine a few months ago, and the feel difference is noticeable.

Thanks for info on braided line, definately going to pick that up. Found autozone seems to have the same cylinders for half the price so ill go that route. Or at least I think they are the sameas the pictures are identical. Didn't compare part number yet.

Thanks to everyone for their input. Even though master cylinder had no leaks I replaced it and after bleed feels like a new clutch. RX-7 love is like no other. No further replies needed, issue resolved and post good to close.
