Carb question
Hi all,
So i picked up a 1980 SA Rx-7 The other week and finally got it running somewhat, but when i turn it on it has a tendency to die when i slow down or stop. It also has a problem with turning back over and it sounds like the battery is dying but when i put it on the trickle charger, the battery is fine. Do i just have the carb adjusted wrong? I put lean jets in it from an 85 FB to see if it would help the godly backfiring issue, which it has for the most part, but i am not sure if that could be the reason why its so hard to start and it dies when i stop. Should i just put the richer jets back in? Any advise would be appreciated!

Put the original jets back in. Then fix the leaks in the exhaust system to put a stop to the backfiring.
Perform a full tune-up (plugs, cap/rotor, fuel filter).
Then, after all of that, read this article on how to set the idle on your carb: http://sterlingmetalworks.com/tuning_the_nikki.htm
And for the hard starting issue, you'll probably have to replace your battery cables. They corrode internally as they age. You can try cleaning up the connections on them, but most are ready for replacement anyway.
