car won't start
Turns over real nice but won't actually fire up. Thought it was my trailing ignitor, but I poured some gas in the carb and it started right up. Is my fuel pump out? Right before the car died, the tach went to zero and twenty feet later the car just bogged out and then died. Is the tach and fuel pump connected in some way?

On 2nd gens the tach signal is through one of the coils, not sure about first gens but I'm sure its similar.
If your car fired up with gas in the Carb its getting spark and not getting fuel, check your fuel pump and make sure its getting power, I'm guessing its nit working anymore, either due to a wiring problem or just needing to be replaced, your only other problems could be a clogged fuel filter, bad fuel lines, or the sock on the fuel pump is clogged, or carbs needs adjustment.
Hope that helps, though I'm not very familiar with 1st gens or carbs.

^^^ I think the tach runs from the trailing coil so there might be an electrical problem but start with removing the fuel line at carb and check for pressure while turning the engine over ,, Maybe get someone to listen at the rear and see if the pump works while turning the engine . Or check your wiring diagrams and jump the fuel pump to see what happens .
wthdidusay82 pretty much covered the rest . Change fuel filter weather you think it needs it or not before returning to the road . Have a good one Gerald m. Make sure the trailing ignition is working as the little engine will run good without the trailing and might not be feeding power to the fuel pump ..

So, there is fuel in the tank. I'm getting spark, I removed both the hoses to the carb, no fuel came out, pinched it no pressure build up. How much is a proper pressure tool, instead of just pinching the line? The fuel filters are clear and they look good to me, but I'm gonna replace them anyways just cause I can. I have a book. I wish I could read mechanic. Anyways, I have an 83 and when I turn the ignition to on I hear a humming noise, which I'm guessing is the fuel pump. My 84 never made that noise. When it was working or not.

Sounds like the fuel pump is not working. I've never been in an FB but assume there is an access panel in the rear to get at the top of the fuel pump. Pop that cover off and use a multi-meter or test light to check for power at the fuel pump electrical connector. If you have power while cranking then the pump is bad. If you don't have power check fuses and relays. You should be able to find fuse/relay locations in your service manual. Hope this helps, good luck!
