Car sitting for 8 monhts......

Hi I'm Mike and I currently live in Germany.
My 89 has been sitting in a friends garage for the past year. I'm due back in the States in July so I dropped him a line and he told me that due to some personal issues he had been unable to start or drive the car every week like we had agreed. Meaning it hasn't been started for at least 8 months.

The car starts but quits after a few minutes. Not being a mechanic and knowing that the RX7 is a rare bird given it's rotary engine I figured I would access the wisdom of the members here regarding any advice you would have for me.

The car isn't perfect. Last time it was driven I had some issues with it stalling when stopped and when parking. It needs a new convertible top, has a cassette stuck in the original deck and the odometer has been broken forever. Could use new paint but looks good from a distance and at night it's a beauty.

I'm requesting any ideas on getting it started and staying started. Also any suggestions on the stalling problem, replacing a convertible roof and any oil or fluid recommendations for the engine. Thanks in advance. Mike.

I'm certainly no expert but when mine sat for a while and didn't run right I put in some fresh gas and Seafoam and just burned it through. Others will chime in with far more sophisticated plans of attack though.

my recommendation is to drain the gas and put new gas in it. also add some form of fuel injector cleaner alongside maybe a new fuel filter. also check the battery, alternator, and fuel pump to make sure each is still in good working condition.

Check your intake and vacuum lines to make sure you are not getting extra air or it escaping. My car did the same at one point and all it was was just loose intake. Could be anything. Check tps, drain gas, and compression test

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm not back until the 10th of July so I have got some time to figure out a plan. I'm thinking abput having it towed to my mechanic and having him drain all the fluids, gas tank etc.... Then we'll see how we do. Not looking forward to the results though. It wasn't my idea to let the car sit for more than a week at a time, much less 8 months. Thanks again.

Anyone ever get a convertible top replaced on their RX7?
