Build Path??
hi, not sure if i'm posting this in the right section. I looked around but cannot find this anywhere. I have a 87 turbo. I did all of the basic maintanence, ie. new seals and gaskets, all fluids changed, new plugs wires etc., and replaced vaccum hoses. could someone lay out a basic build path to follow or point me in the right direction? I want the car to be somewhat reliable, but have enough power to beat a stock wrx. any help is appriciated.....

Not the answer you want probably, but there is a book called street rotary that is a great book for a guide and a whole lot of info about pretty much all rotary engines. Just a suggestion. Got mine on amazon

you are going the correct direction. Just spend some time and look at EVERYTHING. all hoses and vacuum lines ect. if it looks worn or cracked replace it. Look closley at the turbo pipe hoses at the turbo discharge where it goes to the manifold as these are known to split due to age and heat. Just look around, a light and mirror on a stick will be most usefull to see the underside of things.
Keep at it, it will be a nice ride it maintained correctly.

well, more boost equals shorter engine lifespan. period.
having said that, a boost controller and good tune/supporting mods are your best bet for now.
EDIT: I say build your chassis/brakes/suspension to handle the extra power before actually adding it. Ever driven a car that was big on power and lacking everywhere else? No Bueno.

yes for sure! my last car was a nissan sentra with a fwd sr20det in it. I had 400+ hp and no body or suspension work. lol funny you said that. Ok, so if I put a downpipe on with stock cat and mufflers, will that do anything or just look nice??

Nothing noticeable. May change your sound a bit but the rest of your exhaust is still restricting the flow just the same as it was. At least thats what I would think.

In that FAQ sticky you will find this basic build path:

The build path is a bit dated, but it is still useful. Just FYI, the fuel cut defenser (FCD) is pretty much obsolete now that the Rtek upgraded ECUs are available.
