Broken Gas pedal/ Accelerator cable, or spring. need immed help pleas!

Hey guys, I've been searching the forums for a bit, and i have a serious problem and i haven't found a good explanation, or answer to fix.

I happened to be effing around with a friend, over reved my engine, and I'm assuming my spring got stuck, cuz the engine continually reved to 8krpm, buzzed, and then i smashed the brake and it calmed down.

now, later today, I was driving and my gas pedal got stuck. it would only push in a quarter of the way, and refused to go in any further. i got into a parking lot and pressed until it finally went in, except it went to the floor and refused to come back.

I called over a mechanic friend, but he doesn't know rotaries, and i'm still learning. but he got my pedal back to the first position where it would go in a quarter of the way so i could make it home.

BUT, i seriously need this car so i can get to work, and tomorrows (fri 5/28/10) my last off day, so I can get up at like 7am EST to try and fix her all day. but i dont know what to do, and I SERIOUSLY need to know what to do.

I'm running a 1985 GSL-SE with a Stock 1979 12a engine swap.

Um, idk what else i need to tell you...

I had my mechanic take the choke off, and i have a fuel cut off switch and kill switch.....

and since it's an 85 i dont deal with emissions so all thats been plugged off.

but i could really use some help guys. thanks in advance!

A simple cleaning of all the throttle linkages will probably fix this. Also make sure that the cable itself is not damaged in any way.

Look on the side of the car, and see if there is any part of the linkage that is getting jammed.

hey thanks guys!

sorry i took so long to answer. i work full time.

but yeah, i couldn't figure out why it was not working, so i took her into my friends shop, and a good friend of mine and employee of the shop drives an fc, and he took a look and found that my engine hoist hook thingy, wasn't tightened into place from when i did my engine swap.

and so he moved it back to the up position and screwed the bolt holding it in completely, so the problems all gone.

i feel so stupid for not noticing it, but i was trying to find the problem at 1am with a cell phone lol.
