MI Broken Door Handle

Any tips or tricks to fix this thing or replace it? I found a yard with one in the right color but I have to pull the handle and well I've never done one so any tips tricks etc would be great. Gotta love breaking the handle on the way out of work pull up nothing happens watch all your co workers stare as you go through the passenger door.

Which model RX7?

I bet it's an FD since that is a known issue.
If it is, check this thread:

Yep, I had picked up on 88 GXL from his profile, too. Had a nice little write-up for him. Then clicked submit & found I had timed out...lost the whole thing.

Anyway. So, yeah, 2nd gen...pretty straightforward to access the door handle mount. 4 large phillips head screws go through the inside handle/armrest. 4 smaller screws at the base of the door panel. 1 small screw for the trim piece at the inside door release. then a bunch of plastic snap-in/snap-out widgets holding the door panel in place along the bottom & sides & you can lift it out of the ledge at the window. last step is to separate the connectors for the power window switch, courtesy light & speaker.

Once the panel is off, pull down the corner of the plastic liner sheet to expose the access hole and the two 10 mm nuts that hold the handle. After that, not sure, as I have never removed a handle...only gotten in there to tighten (and Loctite) the nuts. You should be able to get the details from an online factory manual (rotaryheads.com or foxed.ca).

Good luck.

Sounds like this is very common. Very difficult to avoid with an older car.

To wrap up RobbyWally's advice, the last step, though it might be easier to do before removing the 2 10mm mounting nuts, is disconnecting the linkage to the lock cylinder and to the handle itself. Each has a funky though typical plastic piece you have to unsnap from the linkage and spin. The rods will then slip right out of their mounting holes. Be careful with those plastic 'clips' as they're easily broken...
