BC Bringing a FB back to life

Hey everyone

So I saw a FB sitting in the parking lot of my brothers building and asked my bud to come check it out with me. I dont know who the owner is yet but will look into it shortly.

Its obvious that its been sitting for a while. Dust is built up on it but the tires arent flat so there is hope. My bud told me that its not worth looking into because if a rotary sits too long all the coolant veins on the inside get rusty etc...

My hope is to buy it cheap (300-500$) and try to rebuild it. From what ive heard the 12a's are solid engines and are worth the trouble.
Ive been reading lots of these threads and have a general idea of what to do. Does anyone know if running solvants through the engine will work to clean it up? I know Canadain Tire sells all kinds to revamp the fuel, oil and coolant systems.

welcome to the board.

not sure how things are done in your neck of the woods, but I would probably advise maybe leaving a note or asking someone if they have info on whom the owner is. that way you don't come across as some psycho-stalker type that may be unexpectedly confronted/accosted by an angry owner or law enforcement.

also perhaps open your search. if you're really interested in a Gen I don't fixate on just one car. if this particular car starts to shape up into a real possibility, then you'll be more interested in how then engine was prepped for storage. that rust does happen - usually when someone's just running water. 12As are great engines, but if it wasn't cared for before, then there isn't much you can do but either move on if you feel it's too much for you or bite the bullet and repair it.
