boost the 6 port or swap motors?

hey all just picked up my first FC, it is going to be my project and i still have a daily driver so im ot too worried about it being down for days/weeks at a time, its an s4 n/a but obviously its not powerful enough for me and i miss boost (used to own a DSM) . so i was wondering since i plan to go bigger turbo gt30-gt35 size, what should i do?, this build will be done on a budget so i cant really see myself being able to afford 1200 for a T2 swap, then the cost to "refresh it" and then the money to put together the kit and supporting mods, so i considered going with just building the 6 port but i have a few questions.

1, how much power could a modified 6 port handle before i need to worry bout pinning/dowling the engine

2, what power level do you end up breaking off the ear or tab of the 6 port engine (came across a few pics of broken plates/housing)

3, is there a turbo manifold that allows for the stock 6 port manifold to be used or will i be building my own turbo manifold?

im sure i have other questions that are slipping my mind but for now those are the ones biggest in my mind, please feel free to give me opinions, pointers, and tips if you have any experience

Your easiest and most straightforward route (maybe cheapest as well) would be to perform the standard TII swap as documented in the FAQ, then upgrade the turbo. You can get a working J-spec S4 TII engine for under $1000. You'll want the rest of the drivetrain as well (transmission, driveshaft, starter, clutch slave, rear end, half shafts) to match the engine.

On both a 6 port NA engine and a TII engine, the same basic mods will be required to upgrade the turbo: standalone, fuel system, exhaust, intercooler, wideband. And of course all the stuff required for the full turbo upgrade; turbo, manifold, wastegate, plumbing.

However with the NA engine you'll be in charge of the oil and water systems for the turbo. If you use the NA intake manifolds, you need to fabricate basically everything about the turbo system from scratch. If you use the TII intake manifolds (http://www.aaroncake.net/RX-7/4PortLIMTo6Port.htm ) then you can bolt on stuff designed for a TII but in keeping the aux ports open all the time, you end up with a radical reduction of low end and midrange torque.

There is nothing inexpensive about a full turbo upgrade whether it be on the TII engine or 6 port engine.

Here are the turbo swapping links from the FAQ:

Can I swap a Turbo engine/Jspec engine/13BT/etc into my Non Turbo?
Yes, check these links:

How do I add a turbo to my NA 13B?
What Turbo kits can I add onto my non turbo RX-7?
There are no longer kits formally made at the time of this post, however there are companies from time to time that do make available non turbo to Turbo Kits. Because most of these companies stop building the kits, or go out of business in short time, it is impossible to keep active links for them.

Most people that turbo a non turbo make their own kits:

How much power do you want to make? A GT30, for example, is a 300HP turbo on a 13B with boost tapering off in the upper RPMs as the turbine becomes a choke point. A 35R is a great all around street turbo for 400HP and quick response.

Hey Aaron thanks for your response I read your whole page befor posting, I guess I will be looking at a gt40 size turbo as I would like to make mid 400 to low 500s, I already plan to go with haltech for my computer as I've wired in a haltech system in to a 1jz supra , I've decided I will be building my own top mount forward facing manifold, probably vmount intercooler setup and a 255 pump or supra pump with the correct size injectors to supply the fuel, I just am not sure what motor to start off with 6 port or t2

I just feel as if the 1000 I would spend on the stock t2 would be better put to use on mods to the 6 port since I wouldn't even be keeping any of the stock components of te t2 other than the base shortblock and drive train
